Elephant ears
are "cousins" of caladiums -
generally they are much
bigger and you won't find as
many varied colors in the
leaves. The family is
divided into two main
categories - Alocasia, where
the leaves are usually
upright as pictured, or
Colocasia where the leaves
tend to bend downward. Many
of the corms and stems of
elephant ears plants are
edible, Dasheen in the
Indies and Poi in the
Pacific islands come from
these plants. |
